Continuous rainfall has led to repeated landslides on the Sonprayag-Triyuginarayan motor road, disrupting traffic and creating difficulties for pilgrims and visitors travelling to the revered Triyuginarayan Temple. The route, which leads to the sacred site believed to be the wedding venue of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati, has also impacted wedding ceremonies scheduled at the temple.

Following heavy rain on Sunday night, large quantities of debris and boulders fell onto the road in the Bada Sangu area, forcing authorities to temporarily close the route. With vehicular movement halted, travellers had to walk long distances to reach their destinations. Pilgrims from Gujarat and Maharashtra, who had planned wedding ceremonies at Triyuginarayan Temple, also faced significant inconvenience.

Local social worker Mahendra said landslides have become frequent during the monsoon, causing repeated traffic disruptions. He alleged that inadequate drainage arrangements have allowed water from seasonal streams to flow directly onto the road, destabilising the slopes and increasing the risk of rockfalls and debris accumulation.

Officials of the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana said machinery has been stationed near vulnerable locations to ensure prompt clearance of debris. Executive Engineer Pawan Kumar stated that restoration work is being carried out continuously to reopen the road for traffic as quickly as possible.

Heavy Rain Disrupts Roads Across Pindar Valley

Heavy rainfall also affected several motor roads in the Pindar Valley, disrupting normal life in the Narayanbagar, Tharali and Deval blocks. Multiple roads, including the Deval-Kheta Manmati route, were blocked by landslides, leaving more than 50 vehicles stranded.

The Tharali-Dungri motor road was reopened for traffic after remaining closed for nearly 12 hours. However, around 10,000 residents of 16 villages in the Sol Valley continued to face disruptions due to road blockages. On the Nandkesari-Jaula road, drivers attempted to clear debris themselves to restore movement.

Meanwhile, the Nalgaon-Kafartir-Bhatiyana road in Narayanbagar has remained closed for the past week, forcing residents to travel an additional 25–30 kilometres to reach the block headquarters. PMGSY Assistant Engineer D.S. Bhandari said JCB machines have been deployed to reopen the affected roads. Authorities also warned that continued landslides near Deval market pose a risk to nearby buildings.
