The Uttarakhand government has provided significant relief to candidates aspiring for uniformed constable-level posts by revising the recruitment rules. Under the amended provisions, the implementation of the unified recruitment rules has been deferred for three years, allowing upcoming recruitments to continue under the previous service rules until December 31, 2028.
Earlier, the state had introduced a unified recruitment framework that fixed the maximum age limit at 35 years for various uniformed posts. However, the change led to confusion and concerns among aspirants regarding eligibility under different departmental rules. Following demands from candidates, the government has now granted a temporary relaxation to ensure that recruitment is not delayed.
According to the revised notification, the relaxation will apply to all notified uniformed posts except Sub-Inspector (Police and Intelligence), Platoon Commander (PAC/IRB), Fire Station Second Officer, and Forest Sub-Inspector (Van Daroga). Recruitment for the remaining posts will continue as per the age criteria specified in their respective service rules until the end of 2028. From January 1, 2029, the unified age limit of 18 to 35 years will become applicable across all eligible posts. Candidates belonging to reserved categories will continue to receive age relaxation as per existing government norms.
The relief will benefit recruitment for several departments, including Firemen (Home Department), Prison Guards, Forest Guards, Excise Constables, and Enforcement Constables in the Transport Department.
The government has also notified updated physical eligibility standards. The minimum height for male candidates in the General, OBC, and Scheduled Caste categories has been fixed between 163 cm and 167.7 cm, depending on the post, while candidates from Scheduled Tribes and hill regions will receive relaxation as per rules. Female candidates across all departments must have a minimum body weight of 45 kg.
In the Physical Efficiency Test (PET), every event will be mandatory. Candidates failing even a single activity will be disqualified from the recruitment process. Standards include separate long jump and cricket ball throw distances for male and female candidates, a requirement of at least five beam pull-ups for several posts, and specific running tests. For the Forest Sub-Inspector post, male candidates must complete 25 km in four hours, while female candidates must cover 14 km in the same duration. For police and other departments, male candidates must complete 5 km in 32 minutes, while female candidates must complete 2 km in 15 minutes. Additionally, the 25×4 metre shuttle run must be completed within 30 seconds.
