Pantnagar: A Class 6 student of Pantnagar Campus School has earned recognition for his innovative approach after receiving a patent from the Government of India for a specially designed chair for left-handed students.

Vyom Keserwani developed the chair with the aim of making writing more comfortable for students who use their left hand. The achievement at such a young age has brought appreciation from the school and university community.

Chair Can Be Adjusted for Left- and Right-Handed Students

Vyom’s design can be adjusted within a short time to suit both left- and right-handed students. Most writing chairs used in schools are designed primarily for right-handed students, which can make writing and sitting uncomfortable for left-handed children.

The idea was inspired by Vyom’s father, Dr Amit Keserwani, who is also left-handed and has three patents registered in his name. After observing his father’s work, Vyom developed the idea for a chair that could address the difficulties faced by left-handed students.

His father helped him refine the design and guided him through the patent process. A prototype of the chair has now been developed, and work is underway to make it commercially available.

The family is also seeking support from the school and district administration to take the innovation forward.

Student Worked on the Idea for Several Months

Vyom said the idea came to him about a year ago after watching his father’s work. He began working on the concept around five to six months ago.

During the Independence Day main function, the university registrar, chairman of the Campus School Committee, principal and other guests honoured Vyom and congratulated him on the achievement.

The recognition has also encouraged the young student to continue exploring new ideas and developing practical innovations for students.
