Chamoli: A large-scale plantation drive was launched in Mundoli village of Deval block on the occasion of the Harela festival under the joint initiative of Anant Nandas Foundation (ANNT NANDAS FOUNDATION) and the Mundoli Range of the Forest Department. The campaign aims to promote environmental conservation, increase green cover, protect water sources, and preserve the region’s biodiversity.
The plantation programme was led by Subedar Raghuveer Singh Bisht of the Anant Nandas Foundation. Around 50 participants, including local villagers, youth volunteers, and officials and staff of the Forest Department, took part in the drive. Together, they planted 500 saplings, including native Himalayan species such as oak (Banj), deodar, and other environmentally suitable trees.
Addressing the gathering, participants said that Harela is not just a traditional festival but also a symbol of environmental responsibility and harmony with nature. They urged people to plant more trees and ensure their protection so that future generations inherit a cleaner and greener environment.
The plantation campaign began on the occasion of Harela and will continue until July 30. During the 15-day drive, the organisers have set a target of planting 3,000 saplings at different locations based on local ecological conditions. The organisers also said that proper care and maintenance of the planted saplings would be ensured to improve their survival rate.
The Anant Nandas Foundation stated that it regularly conducts public welfare initiatives related to environmental conservation, education, sports, skill development, social awareness, and rural development. The ongoing plantation campaign reflects the foundation’s commitment to sustainable development and environmental protection.
The programme was attended by Forest Department officials Ashish Rawat and Forest Beat Officer Balveer Singh, along with Vinod Singh Dungariyal, Pradeep, Amit Bhalla, Kedar Datt, Tara Singh, Kamla Devi, Kalawati, Komal, Meenakshi, Nisha, Sahil, Dheeraj, Nitin, Rahul, Suraj Pujari, Manoj, Gram Pradhan Bhagirathi Devi, Hira Singh, Puran Singh, Khushal Singh, Kunwar Singh Pujari, Mohan Singh, and several other local residents.
The event concluded with participants taking a pledge to plant more trees and actively contribute to environmental conservation through collective community efforts.
