Attacks on Hindu Temples in Bangladesh Amid Rising Communal Violence

In Bangladesh, incidents of vandalism and desecration of Hindu temples have escalated amid ongoing communal violence. Within two days, three Hindu temples in Mymensingh and Dinajpur districts were attacked, with eight idols damaged.

In Mymensingh’s Haluaghat area, three idols were vandalized at two temples on Thursday and Friday. According to Haluaghat Police, two idols were destroyed at the Bondarpara temple of Shakui Union, though no arrests have been made so far. At the Polashkanda Kali Temple, one idol was damaged, and a 27-year-old man was arrested in connection with the incident, confessing to the crime.

In Dinajpur’s Birganj sub-district, five idols were desecrated at the Jharnabari Shasan Kali Temple on Tuesday. Janardan Roy, president of the temple committee, described the act as unprecedented.

The growing number of communal violence incidents has strained relations between India and Bangladesh. Last week, Indian Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri met Bangladeshi officials in Dhaka, urging them to ensure the safety of the Hindu community.
