Congress Working Committee Meeting Begins in Belagavi: Focus on Ambedkar Issue

The Congress Working Committee (CWC) has commenced its two-day meeting in Belagavi, Karnataka, termed the “Nav Satyagraha Meeting.” The party aims to strategize its attack on the BJP over key issues, with the controversy surrounding Dr. B.R. Ambedkar being a focal point. The meeting comes amid heightened political tensions following remarks by Home Minister Amit Shah, which the Congress has termed disrespectful to Dr. Ambedkar’s legacy.

Ambedkar Issue and Congress’s Stand
The Congress plans to strongly raise the alleged disrespect towards Dr. Ambedkar during the meeting. To address this, the party has announced the observance of an “Ambedkar Honour Week” and demanded an apology from the Home Minister. Congress General Secretary K.C. Venugopal emphasized that discussions will focus on framing the roadmap for this campaign.

Historical Significance of the Meeting Venue
The venue holds historical significance as it was here 100 years ago that Mahatma Gandhi assumed the presidency of the Congress. To mark this legacy, the party will pass two resolutions and organize a “Jai Bapu, Jai Bhim, Jai Samvidhan” rally on December 27, which will see participation from over 200 leaders and party workers.

Meeting Agenda
In addition to the Ambedkar controversy, the CWC will deliberate on other pressing issues, including strategies to challenge the BJP and reaffirming its commitment to the Constitution and social justice.
