Chandigarh: Transport services across Punjab will come to a halt from January 6 to 8, as employees of Punjab Roadways, PRTC, and Punbus have announced a three-day strike. Union state president Resham Singh Gill revealed during a press conference in Moga on Saturday that employees have been demanding government action on various issues for a long time but to no avail.
The key demands of the protesting employees include:
- Abolishment of the contract system
- Permanent employment for temporary workers
- Curbing transport mafia activities
- Procurement of new buses
- Reinstatement of dismissed employees
On January 7 at 10 AM, employees will hold a protest outside the Chief Minister’s residence in Chandigarh. The strike has also garnered the support of farmer organizations, amplifying its impact.
For three days, passengers will face major disruptions in transportation and will have to rely on private buses and taxis, leading to increased travel expenses and delays. The transport department is also expected to incur significant financial losses during this period.
