Uttarakhand has witnessed a welcome relief in the ongoing fire season, as no forest fire incidents were reported on May 3 and 4. The fire season officially began on February 15, and since then, a total of 180 forest fire incidents have been recorded across the state, affecting 209 hectares of forest land.
According to forest department data, 69 incidents occurred in the Kumaon division and 99 in the Garhwal division. Additionally, 12 fire incidents were reported in wildlife areas. The two-day zero-incident period marks a hopeful turn in what has otherwise been an active fire season.
Authorities continue to monitor sensitive forest regions, and efforts to raise awareness and preparedness among local communities are ongoing to prevent future flare-ups. The state forest department is also working on improving rapid response and surveillance systems to curb further damage.
