India-Pakistan Agree on Ceasefire After Pakistan’s Initiative, DGMO Talks Held

India and Pakistan agreed to a ceasefire on Saturday evening following a request initiated by Pakistan’s Director General of Military Operations (DGMO). The ceasefire announcement was confirmed by Indian Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri, shortly after U.S. President Donald Trump stated that both countries had agreed to an “immediate and complete ceasefire” after U.S.-mediated talks.

The ceasefire agreement includes halting all land, air, and sea military actions from 5:00 PM IST. A follow-up conversation between the two DGMOs is scheduled for May 12 at 12:00 PM. The decision comes after rising tensions, including India’s Operation Sindoor against terror camps in Pakistan and retaliatory strikes by Pakistan targeting 15 Indian cities.

Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar affirmed the agreement and reiterated India’s firm stance against terrorism in all forms. Meanwhile, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio had earlier spoken separately with Indian External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar and Pakistani Deputy PM Ishaq Dar to ease tensions and encourage direct dialogue. Rubio had also discussed the matter with Pakistani Army Chief Asim Munir and PM Shehbaz Sharif, reinforcing America’s role in facilitating peace.
