Dehradun Bar Association has issued a strict directive stating that only registered advocates are permitted to wear black coats or pants with white shirts within the district court premises or chamber blocks. Any agent, clerk, or law intern found impersonating an advocate through attire will face legal action.
The Association clarified that unauthorized individuals posing as advocates and entering the court in professional attire will be identified and booked under relevant legal provisions. A circular issued by Bar President Manmohan Kandwal and Secretary Rajbir Singh Bisht noted that several non-advocates are misusing the lawyer’s dress code to conduct unofficial legal work within the court premises.
To curb this, the Association has mandated a distinct dress code for law interns. They must wear their college uniform with the institutional monogram and carry their official identity cards. Any intern violating these norms will face disciplinary actions, including a formal report to their respective colleges.
Furthermore, all advocates have been advised to get identification cards issued for their clerks from the Bar Association itself to ensure proper verification and accountability within the premises.
