Rest Houses to Be Built for Attendants at Doon and Haldwani Medical Colleges

The Uttarakhand government will soon construct rest houses for attendants of patients receiving treatment at Government Medical Colleges in Dehradun and Haldwani. These rest houses will offer essential amenities including accommodation, seating areas, drinking water, food, and toilets.

On Wednesday, in the presence of Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami at the Secretariat, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the Medical Education Department and Sevadan Arogya Foundation. The Chief Minister emphasized that these rest houses will ease the challenges faced by families accompanying patients. He also requested that similar facilities be established at the AIIMS satellite centre in Kichha, to which the foundation agreed.

Breakfast will be served for ₹20, while lunch and dinner will be priced at ₹35 each. A total of 1,750 square meters of land in Dehradun and 1,400 square meters in Haldwani has been allotted for the rest house constructions. The MoU is valid for the next 20 years.

Sevadan Arogya Foundation plans to construct rest houses with a total capacity of 350 beds across both colleges. Accommodation options and rates will include:

  • Dormitories with 10 beds (5 units) and 8 beds (2 units): ₹55 per bed
  • Dormitories with 6 beds (5 units): ₹75 per bed
  • Double-bed rooms (33 units): ₹330 per room
  • Air-conditioned double-bed rooms (8 units): ₹850 per room
  • Four-bed rooms (36 units): ₹75 per bed

Health Minister Dr. Dhan Singh Rawat stated that the government acknowledges the difficulties faced by attendants who often spend long hours or even days at hospitals. Hence, the initiative aims to offer them dignified and affordable accommodation. The first phase will cover Dehradun and Haldwani colleges.
