Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the Yellow Line of Bengaluru Metro on August 10 and also lay the foundation stone for Phase-3 of the metro project. The announcement was made by BJP MP Tejasvi Surya on Sunday, highlighting the major infrastructure boost for the city’s transport system.
The Yellow Line spans 19.15 kilometers and includes 16 stations, built at a cost of ₹5,056.99 crore. It is expected to significantly ease commuting for approximately 8 lakh residents in South Bengaluru, especially those frequently stuck in traffic at junctions like the Silk Board.
Additionally, the Prime Minister will initiate work on Metro Phase-3, which will cover a total stretch of 44.65 kilometers with a proposed budget of ₹15,611 crore. The project aims to strengthen public transportation and address Bengaluru’s chronic traffic woes.
According to Tejasvi Surya, the initial target was to launch the Yellow Line by August 15. With PM Modi’s inauguration scheduled for August 10, the project is set to commence ahead of schedule.
