Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat on Friday said that tariffs on Indian goods are being imposed out of fear of India’s growing strength. Speaking at the seventh foundation day of Brahma Kumaris’ Vishva Shanti Sarovar in Nagpur, he remarked that such measures reflect a self-centered approach.
Without naming any country, Bhagwat questioned, “Why should there be fear when India has done nothing? If nations are oceans away with no direct conflict, what is the reason to worry?” His statement came amid global tariff disputes, including former U.S. President Donald Trump’s 50% tariff on Indian goods and penalties on oil imports from Russia. India has described such tariffs as unfair and irrational.
Bhagwat stressed that problems persist as long as individuals and nations focus only on themselves. “If the perspective shifts from ‘I’ to ‘We’, all issues can be resolved. Compassion and fearlessness can eliminate enmity,” he said.
Highlighting India’s global role, he asserted that the country is capable of providing solutions to the world’s pressing challenges. He also urged Indians to strive for greatness, noting that India’s strength lies in its spirit of togetherness, where people remain content even in hardship.
Praising the Brahma Kumaris movement, Bhagwat said the RSS shares a similar mission of awakening inner consciousness.
