Dehradun, 15 Oct: Welham Girls’ School is all set to host its 68th Founders’ Day on 16-17. The two-day celebration will honour the school’s founding visionaries — Hersilia Susie Oliphant and Grace Mary Linnell, whose courage and foresight established a pioneering space for girls’ education in 1957. The event will bring together parents, alumnae, and faculty for a joyful confluence of learning, creativity, and achievement, reaffirming the institution’s enduring role in shaping confident and compassionate young women.
As a prelude to the exciting line-up of events, the ‘Welham Woman Real Talk’, curated by the Welham Girls’ Alumni Association, was hosted today, bringing together four distinguished ex-Welhamites for a candid conversation with students of Classes IX–XII. These changemakers, representing diverse fields such as Journalism, Innovation, Counselling, and Administration, shared insights drawn from their journeys to inspire both professional excellence and personal growth.
The celebrations, spanning two days, will kick off with the Annual Sports Meet, and go on with the much-anticipated Distribution of Awards, vibrant exhibitions, thought-provoking speeches, and stirring cultural productions, capturing the essence of Welham’s timeless values — courage, curiosity, and compassion. Among the other scheduled events are the career counselling session for parents, creative exhibitions under the theme Neti Neti – Neither Defined, Nor Undefined, plays, and dance dramas – all set to make the air of Dalanwala go festive for two days.
Sonya Philip, Founder and CEO of Learning Matters, and an alumna from the Batch of 1975 will grace as the Chief Guest for the Annual Sports Meet; while Ambassador Gaitri Issar Kumar, former Indian Foreign Service officer (1986 batch), will grace as the Chief Guest for the main Founders’ Day ceremony.
This year’s celebrations hold an added emotional resonance as the school warmly welcomes back its former staff members and honours the alumnae of 1975 and 2000, who return to commemorate their golden and silver jubilees respectively.
Talking about the 68th Founders’ Day, Vibha Kapoor, Principal, Welham Girls School said, “Welham has always been more than a school, it is where young girls learn to lead, to think independently, and to stand tall in any corner of the world. Each Founders’ Day is a celebration of that enduring legacy of women who continue to shape industries, ideas, and institutions. For our students, meeting the alumnae is a reminder that a Welham girl is never alone; wherever life takes her, she will always find the strength, wisdom, and solidarity of her second home.”
