Karnaprayag (Chamoli). A youth died and another was seriously injured after a motorcycle fell into a deep gorge near Galnaun on the Rishikesh-Karnaprayag National Highway on Saturday. Police said the accident occurred when the motorcycle went out of control and plunged nearly 100 meters into the gorge. After receiving information through Dial-112, police, SDRF personnel and local residents reached the spot and launched a rescue operation.
Kotwali in-charge Vinod Thapliyal said Som Bosya (25), son of Robin Bosya and resident of Jorhat, Assam, died in the accident, while Hrithik (25), son of Dhananjay and resident of Buxar, Bihar, sustained serious injuries.
Both youths were pulled out of the gorge with the help of police, SDRF, DDRF, Home Guard personnel and local residents. They were later taken to Sub District Hospital Karnaprayag through the 108 ambulance service. According to officials, the two youths were travelling toward Badrinath Dham from Dehradun along with their friends.
Eyewitnesses said the motorcycle suddenly lost control on a downhill stretch near Galnaun and hit the roadside crash barrier before falling into the gorge. Hrithik reportedly got stuck between rocks and a tree inside the gorge, while Som Bosya fell deeper and suffered critical injuries.

CMS of the Sub District Hospital, Dr. BP Purohit, said Som Bosya was declared dead on arrival, while treatment of the injured youth is underway.
