Joshimath. Continuous traffic congestion on the Badrinath National Highway created a serious situation for a pregnant woman on Friday after the vehicle carrying her to a hospital got stuck in a long traffic jam near Jyotirmath police station. According to officials, the pregnant woman from Kimana village was being taken to the Community Health Centre for delivery when the vehicle was caught in heavy traffic. As the jam continued for a long time, her condition started worsening, increasing concern among family members. After receiving information about the emergency, medical staff from the Community Health Centre, located around one kilometre away, rushed to the spot with necessary medical equipment.
Nurses and health workers parked the vehicle on the roadside and safely conducted the delivery there after arranging basic medical support. Women police personnel also assisted by controlling the crowd and helping the medical team.
Following the incident, local residents expressed anger over the frequent traffic jams in Joshimath. Joshimath Bachao Sangharsh Samiti convener Kamal Ratudi said school children, patients and local residents are getting stuck in traffic for hours every day, affecting emergency services as well.
CHC Joshimath in-charge Dr. Gautam Bhardwaj said traffic congestion from Marwari Chowk to the Narsingh Temple route had continued for several hours. Around 5:30 pm, the hospital received a call regarding the pregnant woman suffering from labour pain in the jam.

He said a staff nurse and ANM were immediately sent to the spot, and since reaching the hospital quickly was not possible, the delivery was conducted on the roadside itself. After the traffic eased, both the mother and newborn were brought to the hospital. Officials said both are healthy.
