A potentially catastrophic incident was averted on the Gangotri Highway near Harsil when a bus carrying 40 passengers had its front tire left hanging in the air after a portion of the road gave way. The bus was traveling from Gangotri towards Jhala when the driver attempted to reverse to allow another vehicle to pass. As soon as the bus moved backward, the edge of the highway collapsed, leaving the front tire suspended off the road.
The sudden occurrence caused panic among the passengers, who were mainly from the Ghansali area of Tehri Garhwal, returning from a pilgrimage to Gangotri Dham with their deity idols (Devdoli).

Fortunately, none of the 40 passengers were injured, and after the successful rescue operation, they continued their journey.
