Contempt Petition on Bulldozer Action: SC Directs to High Court

The Supreme Court refused to entertain a contempt petition against officials in Sambhal over alleged violations of its November 13, 2024, order halting bulldozer actions without prior notice and hearing. The petitioner, Mohammad Gayur, claimed that his property was demolished on January 10-11, 2025, despite the court’s directive.

A bench of Justice B.R. Gavai and Justice K. Vinod Chandran directed the petitioner’s counsel, Chand Qureshi, to approach the concerned High Court, stating that it would be the appropriate forum for such matters. The Supreme Court had earlier clarified that in case of violations, High Courts are empowered to review such cases.
