Haridwar-Dehradun Highway: Thar Driver Allegedly Tries to Run Over Medical Students, Case Filed

Dehradun: A Thar driver allegedly tried to run over medical students and a bus driver following an argument near Motichur on the Haridwar-Dehradun highway in Raiwala. Police have registered a case against the unidentified driver on the complaint of an employee of Himalayan Institute, Jolly Grant.

According to Raiwala police, the incident took place on Thursday evening when a bus carrying medical students of Himalayan Institute, Jolly Grant, was travelling towards Haridwar. A Thar was allegedly repeatedly overtaking the bus.

The bus driver stopped the Thar near the Motichur flyover and questioned the driver about repeatedly overtaking the bus. According to the complaint, the Thar driver allegedly behaved aggressively. Some medical students also got off the bus and objected to his conduct, following which an argument broke out between the two sides.

During the incident, a female student sitting inside the bus was recording the confrontation on her phone. Police said the video reportedly shows the Thar driver suddenly driving the vehicle towards the people standing nearby, causing panic at the spot. The students and bus driver managed to move away from the vehicle.

The video allegedly shows the Thar being driven towards the bus driver in an apparent attempt to hit him. After the incident, the driver fled from the spot.

Hospital employee Prachi Sharma, a resident of Kankhal in Haridwar, submitted a complaint against the Thar driver. Based on the complaint, Raiwala police registered a case against the unidentified driver.

Senior Sub-Inspector Sanjay Rawat said the driver fled after the incident and police teams are working to identify and locate him. Police are also examining the video recorded by the medical student as part of the investigation.
