Rishikesh: Tension erupted on Haridwar Road near Kale Ki Dhal after local residents accused a group of youths from Haryana of molesting a 10-year-old girl. Angry locals surrounded the car and allegedly thrashed the occupants.
According to local residents, the incident took place when the girl was crossing the road. It is alleged that the youths travelling in a Haryana-registered car misbehaved with her, triggering outrage among people present nearby. As news of the incident spread, locals gathered at the spot and stopped the vehicle. Eyewitnesses said the crowd beat up the youths and also damaged the car during the commotion. One of the youths reportedly suffered torn clothes during the scuffle.
Police reached the spot after receiving information and brought the situation under control. However, no written complaint has been submitted by either side so far. Police said they have started an inquiry into the matter on their own and further action will depend on the findings of the investigation.
