The Uttarakhand government has officially launched the Uttarakhand State Minority Education Authority from July 1, replacing the Madrasa Board with a new education framework. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami inaugurated the authority at a programme held at the Chief Minister’s residence and distributed recognition certificates to various minority educational institutions.

During the event, the Chief Minister also presented NCERT textbooks to students of minority schools. He said the government’s objective is to provide quality, modern and value-based education to every child, helping them build a stronger future.

CM Dhami said Uttarakhand has a rich legacy of knowledge, education and spirituality, and the state aims to emerge as a model for education in the country. He said the new authority has been established with that vision in mind.

Addressing concerns over the move, the Chief Minister said the decision was not taken to affect the identity or traditions of any community. Instead, he said the new system is intended to ensure equal educational opportunities for children from all minority communities.

Under the new framework, students will continue learning about their cultural heritage while also receiving modern education in subjects such as science, mathematics, computer studies, technology and skill development. He added that with the growing importance of artificial intelligence, machine learning and digital technologies, no child in Uttarakhand should be deprived of modern education.

The Chief Minister said the authority will provide equal opportunities to children from all notified minority communities in the state, including groups that previously had limited representation in the education system. He added that the initiative has been designed in line with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.

He also said the state government is promoting digital education, smart classrooms, skill development, startups and modern vocational training to prepare students for future career opportunities.

According to the Chief Minister, the Minority Education Authority will function not only as a regulatory body for granting institutional recognition but also as a platform to strengthen quality education, teacher training, transparency and effective implementation of NEP 2020. He appealed to educational institutions, religious leaders, academicians and members of society to support the successful implementation of the new system.
