Tehri accident probe points to slope as cause, 8 killed in tragic cras

Tehri: A team formed under the state’s lead agency, in compliance with directions of the Supreme Court Committee on Road Safety, inspected the accident site in Tehri where eight people lost their lives. The team visited the location to assess the causes of the crash and suggest safety measures.

According to reports, 10 people from Chakreda village had gone to Haridwar to attend a funeral. While returning, their vehicle met with an accident, resulting in the death of eight passengers.

During the inspection, the team examined both the road conditions and the vehicle involved in the crash. Officials said the findings will be used to analyze the exact cause of the accident, and a detailed report will be submitted to higher authorities.

Initial observations revealed that the road at the accident site is adequately wide and has safety parapets installed. However, a continuous downward slope immediately after a turn was identified as a major concern.

Officials said that prima facie, the driver may have lost control over the vehicle due to the slope, leading to the accident. The exact cause will be confirmed after a detailed analysis.

Deputy Transport Commissioner Shailesh Tiwari said that officials from the transport department, police, and public works department were present during the inspection, along with experts from JPRI.
