90 Uttarakhand Waqf Properties Missing from Revenue Records

Ninety newly proposed properties under the Uttarakhand Waqf Board have yet to be officially entered into the state’s revenue records, raising fears of legal vulnerability under the amended Waqf Act. Although the Waqf Board submitted proposals for inclusion to the respective District Magistrates, and verification reports were prepared, the official process has not advanced.

Since the formation of the Uttarakhand Waqf Board on August 5, 2003, the board has managed 2,146 auqaf and 5,388 registered Waqf properties. Following the 2013 Waqf Amendment Act, around 50 additional properties were proposed. However, due to administrative delays, these properties remain outside official government records.

The Board claims it has repeatedly sent requests to the district administrations, but no updates have been made in the revenue records. As a result, these properties are listed internally with the Waqf Board but lack formal legal recognition.

With the implementation of a new amendment to the Waqf Act, concerns have emerged within the community about the potential exclusion of these properties from Waqf oversight. The Board, however, clarified that it has received no such directive and is still awaiting the completion of the record update process across all districts.
