A tragic incident has come to light from Rudraprayag, where a four-year-old boy who had been missing for eight days was found dead under suspicious circumstances in a forest area near his village. The child, identified as Mayank, was missing from Badav village in the Agastyamuni block since April 4.
According to officials, the body was discovered on Sunday morning by local women who had gone into the forest to collect grass. The शव was found around 1.5 kilometres away from the child’s home in the Man Semar Malla area. Villagers immediately informed the police, who reached the spot and sent the body for postmortem to the district hospital in Rudraprayag.
The Rudraprayag missing child case has raised serious concerns, as no visible injury marks were found on the body. Officials also confirmed that there were no signs of an animal attack, making the circumstances of the death suspicious.
Family members said that on April 4, Mayank’s mother had gone to the forest, and the child followed her out of the house but went missing soon after. Since then, a massive search operation had been underway involving villagers, forest department teams, DDRF, and police. CCTV footage and drone surveillance were also used, but no clue was found during the search.
Station House Officer Guman Singh Negi stated that the body was found in a condition where it had turned blue, but the cause of death is yet to be determined. He added that only the postmortem report will clarify the exact reason behind the child’s death. Police have initiated an investigation into the matter.
The Rudraprayag missing child case has also raised questions about the search operation. Authorities admitted that the area where the body was found had not been thoroughly searched earlier, despite being close to the village. This has led to concerns over possible lapses during the search efforts.
