Home Minister Amit Shah’s statement on Dr. B.R. Ambedkar sparked a major uproar in both Houses of Parliament. The opposition alliance ‘INDIA’ demanded Shah’s apology and resignation, while the BJP accused Congress of spreading misinformation.
Opposition leaders staged a protest march near Ambedkar’s statue in the Parliament complex and proceeded toward the Lok Sabha’s Makar Dwar, pressing for Shah’s apology. Congress alleged that Shah insulted the architect of the Indian Constitution, while the BJP maintained that the Home Minister merely highlighted historical facts.
JDU MP and Union Minister Rajiv Ranjan Singh stated in the Rajya Sabha that Congress was distorting Shah’s remarks. He also reminded the House that Dr. B.R. Ambedkar was awarded the Bharat Ratna during BJP’s tenure.
Amid continued disruptions, the Lok Sabha was adjourned until 2 PM.
