Purola (Uttarkashi): The absence of road connectivity in Seva village, a remote settlement in Mori block near the Himachal Pradesh border, once again highlighted the challenges faced by residents in accessing basic healthcare facilities.

On Monday, villagers were forced to carry an ailing woman on their shoulders for nearly 11 kilometres through difficult mountain terrain before she could reach a motorable road and receive medical treatment.

According to social worker Rajpal Rawat, Khakra Devi, a resident of Seva village, had previously undergone surgery for appendicitis at a hospital in Dehradun. After returning to her village, her health suddenly deteriorated. She reportedly suffered severe stomach pain, vomiting, fever and pain in both legs.

With no road access available, family members and local residents tied a chair to wooden poles and carried her across the rugged mountain route to Dhaula. From there, she was taken to a hospital for treatment.

The incident has once again drawn attention to the lack of infrastructure in several remote villages of the border region. Residents said they continue to struggle for basic facilities, particularly during medical emergencies.

Villagers alleged that political leaders visit the area during election campaigns to seek votes but fail to address long-pending development issues after being elected. They said the absence of road connectivity continues to make daily life difficult and puts lives at risk during emergencies.
