Doon Hospital on Alert for HMPV Virus, Emergency Meeting Held

Amid rising concerns over the Human Metapneumovirus (HMPV), the administration of Doon Medical College convened an emergency meeting following directives from the Health Directorate. Principal Dr. Geeta Jain stated that the hospital is fully prepared to handle HMPV and seasonal influenza cases. A dedicated eight-bed ICU isolation ward is already operational. Key decisions on virus prevention and treatment strategies were made during the meeting with officials and healthcare professionals.

HMPV: Risks and Precautions

Discovered in 2001, the Human Metapneumovirus causes respiratory infections with symptoms resembling common cold or flu. While it can affect individuals of all ages, it poses a greater risk to young children, the elderly, and those with weakened immune systems. The virus spreads through coughing, sneezing, and direct contact with infected individuals.

Preparedness Measures

Doon Hospital has prioritized virus management by setting up an isolation ward and organizing discussions on prevention strategies. Raising awareness and maintaining vigilance are key focuses to mitigate the virus’s impact.
