Uttarakhand Class 10th: 10 Mandatory Subjects Under NEP 2020

In a significant shift, students of Class 10 in Uttarakhand’s government schools will now study 10 mandatory subjects instead of five. This change aligns with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, and the State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT) has drafted a State Curriculum Framework (SCF) to implement this change.

New Curriculum Structure

The mandatory subjects include:

  1. Three Languages: Two Indian languages and one additional language.
  2. Mathematics and Computational Thinking
  3. Science
  4. Social Science
  5. Art Education
  6. Physical Education
  7. Vocational Education
  8. Interdisciplinary Areas

Students will have the option to change their subjects starting in Class 11.

Time Allocation Under NEP 2020

  • Languages: 70 hours annually
  • Mathematics and Science: 135 hours annually

The SCERT draft will be sent to the government for approval. This initiative aims to promote holistic development and aligns with NEP’s vision of a multidimensional learning approach.
