The Annual Status of Education Report (ASER) 2024 highlights significant improvements in learning levels in government schools across India. Notably, reading skills among third-grade students have risen to 27.1%, with states like Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Kerala, Haryana, Odisha, and Maharashtra recording over 10% improvement.

Fourth-grade students have also shown improvement. In 2018, 50.5% of students could read at a second-grade level, which dropped to 42.8% in 2022, but has now risen to 48.8% in 2024. The survey covered 605 rural districts, 17,997 villages, and 6,49,491 students.
Smartphone Usage Among Teens
- 90% of students aged 14-16 have access to a smartphone at home.
- 80%+ can operate smartphones, though gender disparity persists.
- 85.5% boys can use smartphones, compared to 79.4% girls.
- 36.2% boys own personal smartphones, while only 26.9% girls do.
- 82.2% students use smartphones for educational purposes.
