Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar attended a prayer meeting at Gandhi Smriti in New Delhi on the occasion of Mahatma Gandhi’s 77th death anniversary. PM Modi was seen interacting with attendees during the event.
Leaders Pay Tribute to Mahatma Gandhi
PM Modi posted on social media platform X, saying, “Tributes to Pujya Bapu on his Punyatithi. His ideals continue to inspire us in building a developed India. I also salute all the martyrs who dedicated their lives to our nation.”
Union Home Minister Amit Shah also paid homage, stating that Gandhi Ji’s thoughts on cleanliness, self-reliance, and rural empowerment remain an inspiration today. He added, “I bow to Mahatma Gandhi, who popularized the values of truth, non-violence, and the fight against injustice worldwide. His efforts unified the nation and strengthened the freedom movement.”
Gandhi’s Legacy
Born on October 2, 1869, in Porbandar, Gujarat, Mahatma Gandhi’s unwavering commitment to non-violence and Satyagraha played a crucial role in India’s independence. On January 30, 1948, Nathuram Godse assassinated him at Gandhi Smriti, Birla House, New Delhi.
