Uttarakhand continues to witness intense rainfall, triggering a sudden drop in temperatures and forcing residents to bring out their winter clothing in the middle of June. In Srinagar Garhwal and other hilly regions, the ongoing rain has led to biting cold conditions, with local residents reporting an unusual chill not felt in years during this time of the month.
Children and elderly people are especially affected by the cold, as the weather has disrupted daily life in several places. The impact is also visible in pilgrimage areas like Hemkund Sahib, where light snowfall has added to the cold. Despite the freezing temperatures, devotees are braving the chill to take holy dips in the icy Hemkund lake before heading to the Gurudwara for prayers.
The Meteorological Centre has issued a yellow alert for certain hilly districts of the state, warning of heavy rainfall and strong winds. In the plains, thunderstorms accompanied by lightning are expected. These weather conditions are likely to persist until at least June 6, with the administration implementing safety measures to protect both locals and tourists.
