In a disturbing case from Pogtha village in Pokhri block of Chamoli district, a woman has been subjected to a complete social boycott after her son was accused of murder. The woman is reportedly unable to purchase goods from local shops, access public spaces, or even use public transport.
The matter came to light when the woman filed a complaint with Pokhri SDM Abrar Ahmed. Acting swiftly, the SDM convened a meeting with the village residents and instructed them to immediately end the boycott, terming it unlawful and unjustified.
The boycott, enforced by local villagers, has left the woman isolated and struggling for basic needs—despite the fact that she has not been accused of any crime. Officials confirmed that such acts of collective punishment violate fundamental rights and could attract legal action.
