Continuous heavy rain in Uttarakhand has severely disrupted daily life, with landslides and debris blocking key highways and rural roads. Although there was some relief from rainfall on Friday, many regions remain affected.
The Yamunotri Highway has been closed for the past seven days. While traffic has resumed near Silai Band, vehicular movement beyond Ojari remains halted. Authorities have initiated the construction of a bailey bridge, but it is expected to take at least a week to complete.
The Gangotri Highway remains open, but frequent rainfall continues to pose challenges in areas like Netala, Papadgad, Bishanpur, and Helgugad. On Friday, around 25 meters of the road near Papadgad in Bhatwari collapsed, blocking the route for nearly eight hours. Traffic resumed only after 2:30 PM.
In Chamoli district, the Badrinath Highway was blocked near Umatta landslide zone for two hours in the morning due to fresh debris. The area has been unstable for over a year, affecting locals like hotel owner Ashish Dimri, who accused NHIDCL of negligence. NHIDCL Manager Ankit Rana confirmed that debris removal is ongoing and safety work is planned post-monsoon.
Other affected regions:
- Simli-Gwaldam Highway was blocked for six hours near Harmani due to a landslide; cleared by BRO.
- Dewal-Tharali road remained shut for 11 hours at Nandkeshari.
- Rural roads in Narayanbagad, Karnaprayag, and Mori block have been blocked due to debris and subsidence, disrupting local movement.
Authorities are working on clearing operations, but the persistent rainfall continues to slow progress.
