The upcoming panchayat elections in Uttarakhand have witnessed an overwhelming response, with more than 63,000 candidates filing nominations. Among the various posts, the competition for the pradhan (village head) seat is the most intense, with nearly three times the number of candidates compared to available positions.
According to the State Election Commission, the scrutiny of nomination papers is underway, and the final list of valid candidates will be published soon. The first phase of polling will be held on 24 July, while symbol allocation for the second phase will take place on 18 July. The second phase of voting is scheduled for 28 July, and results for both phases will be declared on 31 July.
The high number of nominations, particularly for the pradhan position, reflects growing grassroots political engagement. Officials are ensuring strict adherence to the election code of conduct and have started deploying administrative and police personnel in sensitive areas to maintain peace during polling.
