Doon Medical College, Dehradun, has received approval from the National Medical Commission (NMC) to offer an MD course in Pediatrics, with seven seats available for this specialization. Admission to these seats will commence soon via the NEET examination process. This move is expected to address the shortage of pediatric specialists in the region.
Health and Medical Education Minister Dr. Dhan Singh Rawat stated that the state’s goal is to increase MD seats across Uttarakhand’s government medical colleges to 100 per institution by the 2025-26 academic year. With this objective, the medical education department has submitted proposals to NMC to secure approval for more MD seats across various specialties.
Currently, three government medical colleges in Uttarakhand—Doon Medical College (Dehradun), Srinagar Medical College, and Haldwani Medical College—offer postgraduate courses with a combined total of 174 seats across 19 specialties. Of these, Doon Medical College has 53 seats, Srinagar has 52, and Haldwani has 69 seats. At Doon Medical College, existing courses and seat allocations include Pharmacology (4 seats), Anatomy, Microbiology, Ophthalmology, Forensic Medicine, Orthopedics, and General Medicine (3 seats each), and various other disciplines.
