Members of the Mool Niwas Bho-Kanoon Samanvay Sangharsh Samiti staged a protest at Lansdowne Chowk and burnt an effigy of the BJP government, demanding a CBI inquiry into the Ankita Bhandari murder case and disclosure of the alleged VIP involved. Protesters raised slogans against the state government and demanded justice for Ankita, alleging deliberate attempts to shield influential persons.
The situation turned tense when BJP workers were simultaneously burning an effigy of the Congress at the same location. For a brief period, arguments erupted between the two groups, creating a challenging situation for the police administration. However, officials intervened in time and ensured that both demonstrations concluded peacefully without any untoward incident.
Supporting the protest, Mool Niwas Bho-Kanoon Sangharsh Samiti convenor Lushun Todaria accused the BJP government of continuously protecting a VIP in the case. He referred to claims made by Urmila Sanawar, second wife of former BJP MLA Suresh Rathore, and questioned why Urmila Sanawar, Suresh Rathore, and BJP leader Dushyant Gautam had not been summoned for questioning.
Pahad Swabhiman Sena president Rakesh Negi stated that daughters in Uttarakhand were feeling unsafe and warned of a statewide agitation if a probe under the supervision of a Supreme Court judge was not initiated soon. Himalaya Kranti Party leader Pooja Chamoli said the state was formed under the leadership of women, yet crimes against women continued without strict action against the culprits.

Uttarakhand Swabhiman Morcha leader Mohit Dimri said protecting the state’s identity now required collective action and alleged that the BJP had become anti-women. He added that people would be forced to intensify movements if justice was delayed. Several activists including Pramod Kala, Satya, Anil Dobhal, Devendra Hindwan, Satya Prasad Kandwal, Kapil Dev Rawat, and Gagan Baudai were present during the protest.
