Rishikesh – The All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Rishikesh formally inaugurated its prestigious conference ARCSIM 2025, dedicated to simulation-based learning in the medical field. The event is witnessing participation from healthcare education experts and simulation specialists from across India and abroad.
The second day of the conference began with a ceremonial lamp lighting and Saraswati Vandana, followed by floral greetings for all dignitaries. Delivering the keynote address, AIIMS Rishikesh Executive Director and CEO Prof. Dr. Meenu Singh shared her training experience at the Children’s Hospital in Pittsburgh, USA. She highlighted the shift from the traditional “See One, Do One, Teach One” model to the modern approach of “See One, Practice Many, Do One,” emphasizing the importance of simulation in mastering skills before performing on real patients.
Dr. Singh expressed confidence that the conference will feature enriching presentations on tech-based, non-tech, and hybrid simulation methodologies. She also praised the organizing team’s efforts and noted that delegates would benefit not only from academic discussions but also from the spiritual energy of Rishikesh. She further introduced concepts like tele-simulation and tele-briefing as emerging frontiers in medical training.
Conference Chief Guest and AIIMS Chairperson Prof. Samiran Nundy emphasized the importance of surgical simulation in modern medical education. He noted that simulation offers an effective medium for students to understand surgical procedures and that it is vital to compare traditional and simulation-based teaching methods.
Dean (Academic) Prof. Jaya Chaturvedi explained how simulation is revolutionizing the educational space by encouraging learners to make mistakes, ask questions, and learn without fear. Quoting a popular saying from the simulation world, she added, “What happens in SIM, stays in SIM,” emphasizing the safe learning environment it offers to ultimately improve real-life patient care.
Distinguished international guests included:
-
Dr. London Ooi from SingHealth Duke-NUS Academic Medical Center, Singapore
-
Dr. Ashokka Balakrishnan, Consultant Anaesthesiologist and Simulation Program Director, National University Hospital, Singapore
Welcoming the delegates, Organizing Secretary Prof. Shalini Rao highlighted that AIIMS Rishikesh’s Medical Simulation and Skill Development Center has already trained over 36,000 individuals. She stressed that technology-based simulation is transforming how medical skills are taught.
