India Aims for Energy Independence by 2047, Scientists Present Strategic Roadmap

India is on track to become self-reliant in the energy sector by 2047, as scientists unveiled a comprehensive roadmap at the international conference ‘SAFCO’ hosted by the Indian Institute of Petroleum (IIP), Dehradun. Experts believe that by the time India completes 100 years of independence, the nation can eliminate dependence on foreign energy sources.

On the second day of the conference, Prof. Sudhasattwa Basu from IIT Delhi shared insights on energy conversion and efficiency. Prof. Samira Siahrostami from Canada highlighted the role of computational catalysis in clean energy. Prof. Saptarshi Basu discussed low-carbon emission strategies, while Dr. Bharat L. Newalkar from BPCL explained the green hydrogen production process.

During a panel discussion, senior scientists from IIP and BPCL emphasized how domestic resources can be harnessed to meet India’s energy demands. They outlined pathways to phase out traditional imports of oil and gas, ensuring long-term energy security through indigenous solutions.
