PM Surya Ghar Yojana Users Struggle With Subsidy Rules, Over 3,000 Left Unpaid

Under the PM Surya Ghar Yojana promising free electricity for every home, thousands of consumers in Uttarakhand are entangled in complex rules around the state subsidy component. Over 3,000 users, despite installing solar systems on time, have not received the state subsidy due to bureaucratic delays and unclear regulations.

The scheme offered subsidies based on system size—₹50,000 for 1 kW (₹33,000 from the Centre, ₹17,000 from the State), ₹1,00,000 for 2 kW (₹66,000 Centre, ₹34,000 State), and ₹1,36,800 for 3 kW (₹85,800 Centre, ₹51,000 State). However, since April 1, the Uttarakhand government has discontinued the state’s share of the subsidy, leaving eligible consumers without compensation.

Many consumers are now stuck with the financial burden, citing lack of assistance and resolution from authorities. Despite meeting all installation deadlines, the absence of clear support mechanisms has left them in limbo.
