Uttarakhand Declared Fully Literate State, Governor Gurmit Singh Approves Proposal

Uttarakhand has officially been declared a fully literate state after meeting the benchmarks set under the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and the ULLAS (Understanding of Lifelong Learning for All in Society) New India Literacy Programme.

Governor Gurmit Singh has approved the proposal to declare Uttarakhand a fully literate state. The approval comes after the state fulfilled the literacy standards prescribed under the National Education Policy 2020 and the ULLAS initiative, which focuses on promoting lifelong learning and improving adult literacy across the country.

The declaration marks a significant milestone for Uttarakhand’s education sector and reflects the state’s efforts to strengthen literacy through various educational initiatives. The ULLAS programme aims to provide functional literacy, numeracy, and lifelong learning opportunities, particularly for adult learners, in line with the objectives of NEP 2020.

With the Governor’s approval, Uttarakhand joins the list of states that have achieved the literacy benchmarks under the national programme, reinforcing its commitment to inclusive education and lifelong learning.
