In an effort to curb the increasing number of road accidents involving state transport buses, the Uttarakhand Transport Corporation is introducing a new incentive scheme for its drivers and conductors. The initiative, aimed at enhancing passenger safety and reducing vehicle damage, will reward staff with a clean accident record.

According to corporation officials, a “No Accident Reward Scheme” is currently under development at the personnel level. Under this plan, drivers and conductors will be evaluated annually based on accident records. Those with zero reported incidents will be eligible for special rewards. Additionally, the technical condition of bus engines and batteries will be assessed through expert evaluation to ensure safe and efficient operations.

Frequent accidents not only lead to financial losses but also bring legal complications. The scheme seeks to encourage a culture of safety and responsibility among transport staff. However, the exact nature and amount of the reward have not yet been finalized.

New Bus Procurement Process to Resume

Meanwhile, the transport department will reissue tenders for the purchase of 100 new buses, as the previous tender failed to attract any bidders. Authorities are hopeful that the buses will be added to the fleet by the end of the year.
