Financial Aid for Uttarakhand’s Martyred Soldiers’ Families Delayed Due to Finance Department’s Objection

Families of martyred soldiers in Uttarakhand are yet to receive the promised ₹50 lakh financial aid, despite the announcement made by Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Kargil Vijay Diwas last year. The disbursement is currently stalled due to objections raised by the Finance Department.

Finance Department’s Objection

State’s Soldier Welfare Minister Ganesh Joshi confirmed that a response to the Finance Department’s objections has been submitted. Uttarakhand, known for its significant contribution to the armed forces, witnesses the sacrifice of soldiers every month. In the past 24 years since the state’s formation, more than 403 soldiers have laid down their lives.

Previously, the government provided ₹10 lakh as financial assistance to the families of martyred soldiers. However, the Chief Minister had announced an increase to ₹50 lakh. While the proposal was cleared by the Law Department, it faced a setback in the Finance Department, which expressed concerns over the financial burden.

Awaiting Resolution

Finance Secretary Dilip Jawalkar stated that the proposal might not have passed through him and could have been sent directly. The situation remains uncertain as the families of martyred soldiers await the financial support committed by the state government.
