Heavy Rainfall Shuts Down 106 Roads in Uttarakhand, Including Two State Highways

Relentless rainfall and landslides have caused severe disruption in Uttarakhand, leading to the closure of 106 roads across the state, including two key state highways. Rural roads are the worst affected, with sluggish restoration efforts leaving residents struggling for mobility.

In Dehradun, the Motrowala–Doodhli road, just five kilometers from the state assembly, remained blocked for over four hours due to heavy debris. According to the State Emergency Operations Center, 179 roads were initially closed; by late evening, 73 had been reopened.

Post-rainfall, debris again blocked the Motrowala-Doodhli road near Daudwala. Due to poor drainage, the route remains riddled with potholes and stagnant water, increasing accident risks. Local residents Deepak Kumar and Mohan Singh expressed frustration over the condition of roads in Doiwala—an assembly segment that has produced two chief ministers—yet continues to face infrastructural neglect.

Residents from Balawala and Miyawala have also reported inconvenience due to deteriorating road conditions. Many commuters use the Doodhli-Motrowala route to avoid the Lachhiwala toll, but worsening road quality has turned it into a daily challenge.
