In a significant development in the Corbett Tiger Safari scam, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has granted approval to prosecute former DFO of Kalagarh, Akhilesh Tiwari. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), which is probing the case, had sought permission to file a chargesheet based on its findings.
The case relates to alleged financial irregularities worth crores of rupees in the construction of the world-renowned Corbett Tiger Safari at Pakhro range. The CBI’s investigation report cited multiple violations committed by Tiwari during his tenure, leading to the Chief Minister approving prosecution under relevant sections.
In addition, the government has also permitted legal action against former DFO Kishan Chand of Kalagarh Tiger Reserve, Lansdowne. He will face charges under Section 19 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 and Section 197 of the Indian Penal Code for his alleged involvement in irregularities during the construction of the Pakhro Tiger Safari.
The state’s nod marks a crucial step forward in holding senior forest officials accountable in one of Uttarakhand’s most high-profile corruption cases in recent years.
