Selaqui pharma factory fire

Dehradun – A massive fire broke out at the Hub Pharmaceutical and Research Center located in the industrial area of Selaqui Pharma City, triggered by an LPG gas leak. The fire quickly spread, igniting cylinders on-site. Eleven factory workers were caught in the flames, leading to panic and chaos as employees scrambled to escape. Firefighters arrived promptly at the scene and managed to rescue the injured workers, transferring them to a private hospital in Dhoolkot for immediate treatment. Four workers, in critical condition, were later shifted to Doon Hospital, with one employee suffering burns over 95% of his body.

According to the fire department, the pharmaceutical factory uses LPG in its purification chamber and manifold system to supply gas. Around 2:00 PM on Wednesday, a leak in the system led to a sudden eruption of flames, trapping the workers. The fire also spread to nearby LPG cylinders, further intensifying the situation. Fire officials, including Fire Officer Eesam Singh and Station Officer Shanky Kumar, arrived with their teams to control the situation. It took approximately an hour and a half to extinguish the fire, with three fire engines deployed in the operation.

Fire Officer Vansh Bahadur Yadav confirmed that all eleven injured were taken to the hospital. Among them, Saurabh Singh from Rudraprayag, Nitin Kumar from Herbertpur, Praveen Kumar from Vikasnagar, and Vishal from Shankarpur sustained serious injuries. Nitin Kumar, who suffered 95% burns, remains in critical condition, while others suffered burns up to 60%. The factory’s General Manager Sanjay Gupta assured that all injured employees are receiving appropriate medical care.

The fire department has launched an investigation into the cause of the blaze, examining fire safety protocols at the facility. The situation could have escalated if more LPG cylinders, including 45 large and 8 small ones present on-site, had caught fire. Additionally, around 60 cylinders were stored nearby, which, if ignited, could have resulted in a far more severe accident.

Local MLA Sahdev Singh Pundir visited the site to review the situation. He gathered details from the fire officials about the rescue operation and coordinated with factory management, private hospitals, and Doon Hospital authorities to ensure proper treatment for the injured.
