AIIMS Rishikesh Observes WAAW-2024 with Focus on Antimicrobial Resistance

AIIMS Rishikesh organized various activities on the third day of World Antimicrobial Awareness Week (WAAW-2024) to combat antimicrobial resistance (AMR) and promote responsible antimicrobial practices among healthcare workers (HCWs). The initiative focused on infection control, accurate diagnosis, and prudent antimicrobial use.

As part of the program, a structured assessment and training session was conducted for healthcare workers across 10 hospital areas. Using an evidence-based checklist, the evaluation aimed to identify gaps in current practices and recommend improvements. A total of 29 healthcare professionals, including faculty members, senior resident doctors, and assistant nursing superintendents, participated in the assessment.

Approximately 380 doctors, nursing officers, hospital attendants, and housekeeping staff received training on responsible antimicrobial use and infection control practices. Interactive sessions inspired participants to adopt evidence-based infection control measures and reinforced the importance of accurate diagnosis and appropriate antimicrobial usage.
