Dehradun, 10 Oct: A high-level meeting was held today under the chairmanship of Home Secretary Shailesh Bagoli aimed at ensuring seamless traffic regulation across Uttarakhand during the upcoming festive season.
During the meeting, Bagoli instructed officials that special arrangements be implemented for effective traffic management in the markets, at the religious sites, and other densely populated areas throughout the festival period. He also stressed on the need for the officials to remain present on the ground to personally oversee traffic operations and prevent any inconvenience to the public.
During the meeting, it was decided that one company of the Indian Reserve Battalion or Provincial Armed Constabulary would also be deployed in Dehradun for traffic control. Additionally, personnel from the Home Guards and Prantiya Rakshak Dal (PRD) would also be engaged to support the traffic regulation efforts. It was also decided to identify key junctions and high-footfall locations in the city and ensure adequate deployment of traffic personnel at these identified points.
The Home Secretary further stated that all the traffic signals and the CCTV surveillance systems be brought under the operational control of the Police Department to facilitate real-time monitoring and swift response to traffic jams and other issues. The Traffic Directorate was tasked with formulating a comprehensive traffic plan in consultation with subject experts and enhancing coordination with allied departments including Nagar Nigam, Public Works Department, Smart City Mission, and Transport.
Bagoli also emphasised on the need to augment the directorate’s capacity in terms of manpower, technical resources, and infrastructural support to enable robust long-term planning and execution. He issued specific instructions to the officials to ensure that routes for ambulances, fire tenders, and other emergency services remain unobstructed and accessible at all times during the festive period, thereby safeguarding prompt response in case of exigencies.
The officials also reiterated the government’s commitment to prioritising public convenience, safety, and efficient traffic management in view of the forthcoming festivals. Amongst others, the meeting was also attended by the Senior Superintendent of Police, Dehradun, along with officials from the Traffic Directorate.
