Rudrapur: The investigation into the fake NCERT books case has revealed a Rajasthan connection, with authorities confirming that the seized books were stored for some time in a warehouse in Bharatpur. The Special Investigation Team (SIT) will soon travel to Bharatpur to verify details and conduct further questioning.
The case came to light on March 16 when police recovered nearly one million fake NCERT books from a warehouse in Kiratpur Kolada. Based on a complaint filed by NCERT Assistant Production Officer Deepak Kumar, an FIR was registered against warehouse owner Rajesh Kumar Jain, operator Sandeep, and an associate identified as Shahrukh. The investigation was later handed over to the SIT.
During the probe, it emerged that the warehouse rent was being paid online, prompting investigators to extend their inquiry to Meerut. There, links to a printing press owner, Sanjeev Gupta, and another individual were uncovered, indicating a wider network involved in printing and distributing counterfeit books.
The SIT has already arrested Nafees, who allegedly arranged labour and transportation for moving the books. During interrogation, he revealed that a portion of the fake book stock had been stored in a warehouse in Bharatpur, Rajasthan.
Officials said the SIT will now visit Bharatpur to confirm these claims and identify other individuals involved in the operation. Meanwhile, key accused including Shahrukh, Sanjeev Gupta, and main accused Sandeep have filed anticipatory bail petitions in the High Court.
