Mumbai Ferry Accident: 13 Dead, 101 Rescued After Navy Ship Collision

In a tragic incident near Mumbai’s coast on Wednesday, a Navy vessel lost control and collided with the ferry ‘Neelkamal,’ resulting in the death of 13 people and the rescue of 101 others. The ferry was en route from the Gateway of India to Elephanta Island.

According to the Navy, the accident occurred around 4 PM near Karanja during an engine testing operation when the naval ship lost control. Following the collision, a coordinated rescue operation was launched involving the Coast Guard, Marine Police, and Navy personnel.

The rescue mission deployed four Navy helicopters, 11 rescue boats, one Coast Guard vessel, and three Marine Police boats. The injured were transported to nearby jetties and then admitted to local hospitals.

Among the deceased were a Navy personnel and two original equipment manufacturer (OEM) representatives aboard the ship. Authorities have initiated a detailed investigation into the incident.
