In a significant step toward improving healthcare services in Dehradun, District Magistrate Savin Bansal chaired the first quarterly meeting of the Medical Management Committee of Coronation District Hospital at the Rishiparna Auditorium, Collectorate campus. Several proposals were approved during the session, including initiatives aimed at better patient care, newborn support, and food quality.
Starting next month, a dedicated vehicle named “Rakt Garud” will be stationed at the hospital to assist attendants in timely blood collection—easing one of the key difficulties faced by patients’ families. In another major move, the DM announced the discontinuation of contractor-supplied meals at the hospital. Instead, nutritious, high-quality food will be served through the upcoming Hilans Canteen, operated by women’s self-help groups. Chief Development Officer (CDO) has been assigned to ensure smooth execution of the arrangement.
SNICU Beds to be Doubled; DM Orders Probe into High Referral Rates in Deliveries
To support neonatal care, DM Bansal directed the expansion of the recently established 6-bedded Special Newborn Care Unit (SNCU) to 12 beds. Expressing concern over the high referral rates for deliveries from the hospital, the DM ordered a detailed inquiry into gynecological services in Mussoorie and the anesthesia department at Coronation Hospital. The Chief Medical Officer has been instructed to conduct the investigation and submit a report.
Fast-Tracked Infrastructure: Hilans Canteen and Blood Bank Nearing Completion
Construction of the Hilans Canteen and the new blood bank is progressing rapidly and is expected to be inaugurated soon. Hilans Canteen is a new initiative by the district administration aimed at providing nutritious meals not only at the hospital but also at the District Collectorate and the Guchhupani tourist site. Additionally, in view of the shortage of pharmacists, the DM has ordered immediate staffing through outsourcing to ensure uninterrupted medical services.
During the meeting, a budget of ₹9.07 crore was approved for the financial year 2025-26 to implement these initiatives and enhance hospital infrastructure. The DM reiterated that the primary objective is to ensure patients receive the best possible treatment and attendants do not face unnecessary hardships.
